Delete your Suluhu account

How to close your account, and what happens to your information afterwards. Some records are kept, in a form that no longer shows who you are. This page says which, why and for how long.

How to delete your account in the app

  1. Open the Suluhu app and sign in.
  2. Go to Account, then Close my account.
  3. Complete the security check. This confirms it is really you.
  4. When asked “Close your account for good?”, tap Yes, close it.

Before you can close an account, any open jobs, disputes and payouts must be finished. If one is still open, the app tells you what to finish first.

Deleting an account happens only in the app, or through support as described below. It cannot be done by filling in a form on this website.

If you no longer have the app

Contact Suluhu support and ask for your account to be closed. Contact us from the phone number on the account. Support will verify that you own the account and then close it the same way, with the same result as deleting it in the app.

What is deleted or replaced at once

  • Your name. It becomes “Deleted user”.
  • Your profile photo, date of birth, home and office addresses and pins, bio, trusted contacts, push notification tokens, and saved payment and payout details. These are deleted.
  • Your phone number, email and ID number. These are replaced by keyed hashes: a one-way code made with a secret key that only Suluhu's servers hold. The original numbers can no longer be read from our records.
  • Every session. You are signed out everywhere, and you can sign up again later with the same phone number if you wish.

What is kept, and why

Deleting your account removes you as a person, but it does not erase everything. Suluhu keeps the records it needs for disputes, safety, fraud prevention and the law. They are pseudonymised: they stay linked only to a closed account that no longer shows your name, phone number, email or ID number.

  • Jobs, prices and timelines. For disputes, legal claims and statistics.
  • Payments, receipts and tax invoices. The law requires financial and tax records to be kept, and tax invoices already issued cannot be changed.
  • Ratings and reviews. Reviews you wrote stay, with their stars and text, under the name “Former Suluhu user”. This keeps the ratings other people rely on honest.
  • Disputes, reports and safety incidents. To protect customers and providers.
  • The verification record, without the ID images. To show that checks were done.
  • The audit log. A record of important actions on the platform, kept for security and accountability.

For how long

  • 6 years. The keyed hashes and the pseudonymised account are kept for 6 years after you delete your account. After that the hashes are removed and the records become fully anonymous. The hashes of a person who has been banned are kept for as long as the ban lasts.
  • At least 5 years. Financial and tax records, as the law requires.
  • 90 days. Chats, voice notes, call recordings and job photos are deleted after 90 days. ID scans and selfies are also deleted after 90 days.

What the hashes are used for

  • Recognising a banned or fraudulent person who signs up again with the same phone number, email or ID number, and for safety and security checks.
  • Nothing else. They are never shown to other users, never sold or shared, and never used for marketing.
  • Your history is never restored to a new account. If you sign up again, you start fresh.

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, hashed data is still personal data, because Suluhu holds the key. Suluhu treats it that way. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
